Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine have partnered with Diversified Search Global/Grant Cooper in the recruitment of a dynamic leader with strong credentials in clinical medicine and research (e.g.: clinical trials, translational research) for the position of Chief, Section of Rheumatology.
Requirements for the position include national academic stature, accomplished clinical skills, and demonstrable leadership and management skills to expand all aspects of this Section, including the Section’s research and educational activities. Candidates should meet criteria for an appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor (strongly preferred) level.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Section Chief will serve as a visible and inspiring leader and will provide strategic leadership and direction with responsibility for the research, education, and clinical missions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to define the future culture of the Section as the medical school and health system enter a period of unprecedented growth. The candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to promote an academic and clinical culture that prizes access for all of the communities served by Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Critically, the Chief will partner with other Internal Medicine section chiefs and with leaders throughout the School of Medicine and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist to elevate and promote the importance of the academic mission and grow the Section’s clinical programs. The Chief will also foster an outstanding teaching environment, while continuously improving and advancing the Section’s undergraduate and graduate medical education programs.
The Chief will provide clinical leadership to enhance quality of care and support continued growth and expansion of clinical capabilities. The Chief will promote best practices and improve access to clinical services. This leader will oversee the institution’s Rheumatology faculty and community practices to ensure all patients receive the highest level of care. Working closely with departmental and health system leadership, the Chair will ensure alignment of the Section and enterprise clinical and academic missions.
Key to success in advancing the academic, research, and clinical missions, the Chief will be business savvy and responsible for operations and financial performance for the Section. In this period of growth, successful candidate will recruit and retain high-performing faculty, community providers, and staff. Further, this leader will maintain a collaborative and transparent atmosphere, and identify opportunities for additional development, including opportunities afforded by the integration of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist into Advocate Health (the nation’s third largest non-profit health system and recent investments by Advocate Health to support academic and clinical programs.
The Chief will demonstrate exemplary clinical and academic achievements, strategic leadership ability, strong interpersonal and communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and active engagement in rheumatology on a national level. As part of the growing organization, the Chief will be responsible for expanding clinical services across the Wake Forest market of Advocate Health, in partnership with other leaders. The Chief will also work collaboratively with other leaders throughout the Advocate Health footprint, including rheumatology partners in the North Carolina and Georgia Division of Advocate Health.
